Creating Effects

Effects are stored in the Effect Pool, organized by pool and slot (e.g., 1.1, 1.2, 2.1). You can store, edit, apply, and delete effects using the command line.

Storing an effect#

Build an effect in the programmer, then store it:

store effect 1.1 "Dimmer Chase"

Optionally overwrite an existing slot:

store effect 1.1 "Dimmer Chase" -o

Configuring an effect#

Set speed (BPM)#

effect 1.1 speed 60      -- 60 BPMeffect 1.1 speed 120     -- 120 BPM

Set direction#

effect 1.1 direction forwardeffect 1.1 direction reverseeffect 1.1 direction bounce

Phase spread#

Blocks#

effect 1.1 blocks 2    -- pairs of fixtures share the same phaseeffect 1.1 blocks 1    -- each fixture is independent (default)

Wings (symmetrical distribution)#

effect 1.1 wings 2     -- two wings (mirror from center)effect 1.1 wings 1     -- no mirror (default)

Link to a speed master#

Managing layers#

An effect has one or more layers. Each layer drives one attribute.

Add a layer#

effect 1.1 layer add Dimmer sineeffect 1.1 layer add Pan sine

Configure a layer#

Layers are referenced by index (0-based):

Set preset references on a layer#

Use a preset value instead of a fixed number for the high or low value:

effect 1.1 layer 0 preset high color.3   -- peak uses color preset slot 3effect 1.1 layer 0 preset low color.1    -- trough uses color preset slot 1effect 1.1 layer 0 preset clear          -- remove preset references

Remove a layer#

effect 1.1 layer remove 0    -- remove layer at index 0

Step effects (phaser steps)#

The step waveform uses a user-defined sequence of values instead of a mathematical curve.

Add steps#

Steps are referenced by index:

Applying an effect#

Select fixtures and apply the stored effect:

group 1effect 1.1

Stop it:

stop effect 1.1stop effects    -- stop all

Using effects in cues#

Embed an effect in a cue so it starts and stops automatically with playback:

seq 1 cue 3 item add effect 1.1 group 1

When the cue fires, effect 1.1 starts on group 1. When the executor is released or moves past this cue, the effect stops.
